Part 3: Design

Hey again! In this post, I will be outlining ome of Fandom's design tools and linking to their help pages. These help us set up the theme of a wiki and make sure it looks alright for everyone.


FandomDesktop is the new design of the user interface for Fandom wikis (including formerly Gamepedia wikis) and Wikia.org wikis.

While FandomDesktop has a number of new and adapted features from skins Fandom prevously had, some of the bigger new ones are: the option to switch between light and dark themes; multiple width options; a dismissible right rail for logged-in users; a new and improved Theme Designer; and a local navigation stays with you as scroll down the page, staying pinned to the top.

Part 2: Portability

Hey again! This post is about portability. A significant amount of wiki readers come from mobile and other small devices these days, especially the more a wiki grows and appears on Google and other search engines.

Even though admins and the more regular wiki editors tend to prefer editing via computer to better organize the wiki, it's important to make sure the experience is also pleasant on mobile. That's what portability is all about: making sure people can browse the wiki well, regardless of what device they're using.

Part 1: Content seed + SEO

In this part, I'm going to cover content seed and SEO. Both of these are really important to take into consideration when making articles on wikis as they can affect how many people view your content.


This refers to when starting a wiki, what content you should have in place to give the wiki the best chance of success.

When making a new wiki about a TV show or movie, it's really important to cover the key areas people will want to know about, such as:

  • Main show/movie page
  • Main characters
  • All episode/movie articles (as many as can be made at the time)
  • Key cast/crew members (main cast, directors, writers, producers etc)

Having those articles creates a great platform to build on. You could aim for 50 articles as a minimum starting point if possible.
